The US should ban the burqa and other face covering as a form of female oppression. in Politics
Rape culture is when women are oppressed and force to hide who they are to please priviliged males. Liberals should stop pretending they care about women if they are going to support this.
So, what are we using as the standard for what suffices as “female oppression”? We can point to denial of rights, certainly, but how about in what women choose to do or wear? What should define the line between what’s allowed and what isn’t? If a woman chooses to wear a burqa, is she being oppressed by that choice? If so, why stop at burqas? Based on historical and religious precedent, we could ban all manner of other clothing options as oppressive. Head coverings aren’t unique to burqas, nor even to Islam, nor are the numerous other garments meant to cover up as much skin as possible. And if the threshold is somewhere along the scale of concealment... why? There are plenty of clothing options that may be considered oppressive or demeaning to women, modifying posture or body shape. Is the burqa worse than these? By what metric? How do we establish the point at which a personal choice needs to be banned for a societal good, particularly when doing so results in double standards and does not fundamentally improve the status of the people affected, either within their communities or within the country as a whole?
Ironically, I saw a porno where the woman wore a burqa the entire time. Pretty hot.

Banning people from wearing clothing of their choice to fight oppression - seems a bit counterproductive, does it not?
One of the reasons people wear clothing is due to the principle of "forbidden fruit": people want to save their juicy parts for special individuals, rather than waving them around before everyone. While I do think that this concept is outdated and people should not be afraid of their bodies and should only wear clothing for warmth and protection (and wear no clothing at all if they so desire) - it does have certain practical relevance. People wearing burqas are only different in that their personal threshold for "juiciness" is much lower, and they thing that even showing their face to strangers does a disservice to their special ones.
There is no oppression in this, just traditionalism and asketicism.
